Radio 1980-83
Left in July 1983 went to work for Racal Defence Radar at Tolworth where I met a number of former MNC students including Mark Fay and David Flack.
In March 1984 I obtained a position as R/O with Wallemship Hongkong and went to sea in April 1984.
I left Wallemship in 1989 to seek better money on European flagged ships but although my income increased considerably I never again
found the job satisfaction and camaradarie I had enjoyed sailing with Wallem, and wish I'd stayed with them.
In 1995 as GMDSS was taking the R/Os' jobs I moved ashore to work in I.T. for a while before returning to sea with P&O
in 1998 on the Dawn Princess.
My last ship was the Saudi Jeddah new out of South Korea which I sailed on as ETO, a role I didn't enjoy
and was glad to walk off in Southampton at the end of October 1999, the end of my sea career.
Since that time I have worked contract on and off in I.T. the most rewarding contracts being as civilian support with the RAF.
I maintain the website which was originally created in August 2000
with the encouragement of Simon Langlois and technical assistance of Martin Francis
since when it has grown starting out as HTML and progressing through Microsoft databinding and XML then
later to PHP/MySQL which is how most of it runs now.
I also write a housing blog at Single Aspect which occupied
much of my free time from 2009 - 2014.
In 2019 we moved from Cambridge to Cromer in North Norfolk where I spend more time than I'd like carrying out house and garden maintenance.
My email address is singleaspect [at] proton [dot] me - swap the obvious to contact me.
Lastly, one for the technically minded among you, something I wrote to save my job:- Morse Magic
