Hi,
My name is Glenn Ballard.
I was a MRGC - Radio / Radar student between the years of 1977 and 1980.
Upon completion of my studies, I worked for CASE Communication (later Dowty and then CRAY communication) in Watford between the dates of 1980 and 1991, starting in Field Service, and working up to International Technical Support.
At that time, I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (i.e. Moscow) when the company decided to "Right size".......
Since that time - until present, I have lived and worked in the Middle East, mainly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but also in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
I proposed and designed what has become the Internet backbone for Saudi Arabia whilst I worked with Lucent Technologies.
I was poached by General DataComm (GDC between 1998 - mid 1999) to work in Dubai where I was the Middle East Regional Support Manager to support Lucent and other distributors on the equipment they had purchased.
In 1999 Lucent Technologies poached me back, to return to Saudi, in order to advise on the installation and maintenance of the Internet, and run the Technical Support Departments.
At present I am the 'Project Director' for another company, partnered with Nortel Networks here in the Kingdom, installing and maintaining the Internet Network Expansion projects.
Married and divorced a terrific person from which I now have a wonderful 14 year old son, and have now re-married an equally terrific Canadian. When I finally decide it is getting too hot in this part of the world (temperature in summer +50C and above, and political - well that is always hot), Canada will probably be my final destination.
I attended a college reunion back in the late 1980's, and would love to hear if anyone should plan another some time. If so, do let me know, but please give me plenty of notice in order to arrange travel details from this end.
Would be nice to hear from some of you.
