I attended the Merchant Navy College from 1983 to 1986, where I studied for an HNC in Electronic Engineering. In the final year I received the award for the "Best HNC Student".
After leaving the MNC in 1986, I spent 3 years working in London fixing computer systems and crashing company cars.
Since then, I have dedicated my career to aviation training and, specifically, Flight Simulation. For the most part, this involves ensuring $15,000,000 Flight Simulators are performing just like the ‘real thing’, which includes both hardware and software design and integration, along with liaising with governing authorities such as the CAA and the FAA
In 1995 I was ‘imported’ by the Pan Am International Flight Academy and subsequently emigrated to Miami, Florida and am now a permanent resident of the US. I also have my own company (www.hkdevelopment.com) that redesigns and manufactures replacements for obsolete flight simulator components that are marketed Worldwide.
I currently live in Fort Lauderdale in a 4 bedroom detached house with a pool and drive a BMW M3. It took some getting used to, but sometimes things work out!
I had a thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial time at the MNC. All the lecturers and support staff were excellent. However, I would like to identify two people that I always think back on as those who set me up for what has been for me an outstanding career to date:
Robert Avery: Who taught me a lot about micro electronics and control engineering, along with the (controversial at the time) decision to choose a career in The City crashing company cars!
Roger Taylor: Who taught me so much more I couldn't even do it justice!
My hat off to you both!
As for everyone else, drop me a line…
All the best,
Dave Hunter.
