website

The following text was first written in August 2000 at the time of the creation of the website, and reflects that.

The creation of this website on August 18th 2000 was driven by nostalgia, sorrow that the college had been demolished and a determination that it should not be forgotten.

I am keen that this website should remain focused on the present as well as being a window on the past, and the Forum blog exists as a means to achieve that.

In so far as this website has a mission statement, it is to ensure that the college is not forgotten by making every effort to link all the former staff and students by email and newsletters, and to offer a means by which reunions may be planned.

The merchant navy is still the prime mover of goods around the world and to this end deserves our support, which includes maintaining a memory of the college that gave us our careers.

Almost six years on from those noble sentiments, the Ingress Park site is now a housing estate, and although it may sound disloyal to say so, an attractive housing estate.

The Old Worcesters have a plaque and a mosaic at the waterfront viewing point of the abbey avenue, but we have nothing. I think in the coming years, some thought needs to be given to our establishing a memorial of equal merit in a suitable, but different location.

Your thoughts, as always, are welcome.
