The merchant navy college (shore buildings) at Greenhithe in Kent were in use from September 1975 until July 1989 when the college lost its funding and had to close in spite of great efforts made by staff and students to promote a business plan to save it. Ten years later the site was cleared for housing in a deal done between the developers Crest Nicholson and the owners of the land, the Marine Society, to restore Ingress Abbey as the price for having access to Ingress Park for housing.

I get emails, mainly from India, asking to study at the college but sadly this is no longer possible, and for those of you seeking training for the merchant navy I would ask you please to follow the links on our links page at links

There is no intention to mislead, the website simply reflects the past of a popular college, and as the dual photograph on the home page makes clear, what was once a college, is now a housing estate, with a restored abbey as a feature.
